Rare Breeds Sheep
Dorset Downs
The origin of Dorset Downs Sheep can be traced to the early 1800s in the South of England and the first sheep were imported to Australia in 1938. Despite their rarity, they are highly competitive against all other breeds when it comes to the two key attributes of sheep of this type: prime lamb and downs wool production. They have a very friendly disposition and the ewes are excellent mothers. Dorset Downs are rated 'Critical' by the Rare Breeds Trust of Australia.
